“Revelation Space” by Alastair Reynolds

Hi all,

Book of the Month:
“Revelation Space” by Alastair Reynolds

To the stars! Well, what a jaunt “The Mote in God’s Eye” was! Hope you all enjoyed it as much as most at our monthly Club meeting did. It can be tough reading something for the first time that has been such a vital building block for science fiction writers. You come across these truly interesting and innovative concepts or depictions (in this case, a truly unique alien race) and it feels a bit tropey. I try to place myself at the moment when the book was written, it keeps the surprises fresh and helps couch the narrative for me. ANYWAY, hope you liked it.

For this month, we’re jumping back to the more contemporary for another “story out of space”. This one takes us on a scientific journey to uncover another ancient secret. Alastair Reynolds’ 2000 novel “Revelation Space” follows a scientist as he investigates lost technologies, makes alliances with cyborg civilizations, and generally stirs up a lot of nasty ancient history.

“Revelation Space” is one of the highest rated books on Goodreads that we’ve read recently. Those in our meeting who had read it loved it and it was nominated for BSAF and Arthur C Clarke awards in 2000. Redditor recommendations include: “I couldn’t put it down” and “Hell YES you should read Revelation Space!”

So let’s check out this “hard sci-fi” mystery thriller. Enjoy and we hope to see you on October 18th!

To join a Book Club meeting, all you will need is YOURSELF. If you haven’t had a chance to finish the book, we still would love for you to join us in the discussion.
