The Handmaid's Tale

A Handmaid’s Tale

The United States government has been upturned and women’s rights are in danger… and that’s just the starting point for this month’s book!

With the current state of affairs in politics in mind and our twinkle of hope that was last weekend’s historic demonstrations in mind, we have selected The Handmaiden’s Tale (1985) by amazing author and all around badass Margaret Atwood. We are really looking forward to getting everybody’s insight on this book.

Beyond this being a timely and pertinent book, it is a true classic among contemporary science fiction. It is well paced, engaging, and shockingly believable. Not to mention the fact that the series being produced by Hulu starts up in April. Watch the trailer here!

In the same vein, we selected the absolutely beautiful and equally shocking Children of Men (2006) as Movie of the Month for February. We’re sure you’ll see the correlations right away, but I’ll take any opportunity I can to watch this independent film. There’s a really interesting article in which the director, Alfanso Cuaron, revisited the film in 2016 to talk about it’s current relevance that you can find here via Vulture.
